Former Today show anchor Billy Bush stopped by The Late Show on Monday to discuss the infamous 2005 Access Hollywood tape in which President Donald Trump made lewd comments about grabbing women by their genitalia. For almost 13 minutes, Bush spoke with Stephen Colbert about the entire ordeal.

"He, last week, for some reason came out with, 'That's not my voice on the tape.' Like I said, you can't say that", Bush said.

"It was a hard time", he said, reminding the audience of the political climate 14 months ago. He called out the "irony" of being fired from his job over the incident, while Trump went on become president of the United States. But it must also be particularly infuriating for Bush that Trump is trying to gaslight private acquaintances regarding the Access Hollywood tape.

Bush, the nephew of former president George H.W. Bush, said that he hadn't educated himself on sexual harassment accusations against Trump when they emerged shortly after the "Access Hollywood" tape was released because he had recently been terminated from NBC, but has recently done so.

"I said, 20 women don't get together and say, 'You know what would be really fun, let's take down a powerful guy together.' No, they don't", Bush said. "Anyone who knows me knows these words don't reflect who I am. I said it, I was wrong, and I apologize", Trump said in a video released in October of past year.

"Enough's enough. Stop playing around with people's lives", Bush added.

"It was like a gut punch", Bush described seeing the footage for the first time, three days before it leaked. In regards to how he reacted when the tape first resurfaced, the Today alum said watching it was like a "gut punch" and originally equated Donald's words to a "crass stand-up act".

"Like I wrote in the op-ed, I think a lot of us were complicit ... everyone kind of had to kiss the ring of The Donald because he was making so much money for NBC ... so I was with him all the time", Bush told Colbert.

"Because he was just regaling the seven guys on there and doing this, doing his bit", Bush said.

"If I had thought there was a man detailing a sexual assault strategy to me, I would have called the Federal Bureau of Investigation, not just my executive producer", Bush stated.

Although Trump apologized past year for such comments, he has recently been investigating whether that really was his voice on the tape, with The New York Times reporting that he has been suggesting it was not actually his voice. "If I had thought there was a man detailing a sexual assault strategy to me, I would have called the Federal Bureau of Investigation, not just reported it to my executive producer".

"Matt Lauer controlled that show". "He told me that he went privately to the bosses". He could have protected anybody and he did famously protect people from being fired from that show. Night after night, you can look below the surface of his Trump ridicule and see it plainly: He just wishes he didn't have to talk about Trump anymore, ever. "But my boss, said publicly months later, 'I think we may have moved a little quickly". "I said I appreciated it, and I accepted it, and thanked him". The very day he was swearing in as the 45th president of the United States, I was checking in to this soul-searching retreat in St. Helena, California.

When it comes to the national conversation of victims reporting sexual abuse and harrasment, he said, "Women must be believed". "I'm anxious that the dialogue isn't gonna be around, because we have all these [things], we get onto the next thing. We have to continue it all the way through, and I hope we do that". "There wouldn't have been the moment to bring this bus back", Colbert said.
