The Miami Marlins have agreed to the general framework of a trade involving star Giancarlo Stanton to the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

Representatives for the reigning National League MVP met with the Giants and Cardinals late in the week, as each team attempted to convince Stanton to waive his no-trade clause and pave the way for a blockbuster deal.

As of Sunday afternoon, one source said Stanton had not informed Miami of a decision. In fact, America's heartland seems to be his last choice here.

Stanton's trade talks are complicated due to the full no-trade clause he holds and the $295 million that he is owed over the remainder of his contract.

By all accounts, the Giants and Cardinals remain the most aggressive pursuers, but Stanton is believed to be holding out for the Dodgers to make a realistic push. As such, Stanton could indeed take as long as he pleases if he'd prefer to go to a team other than the two in play.

The ball reportedly is in Giancarlo Stanton's court. The Dodgers are enamored with Stanton's power, but are concerned about the luxury-tax implications of trading for him.

That's another factor, the state of the Giants and whether they can convince Stanton the team has a bright future despite the team-wide struggles starting after the 2016 All-Star break and a core of players advancing in age - the Dodgers' core is far younger. Second baseman Joe Panik has also been mentioned.
