32-year-old Earl Kimrey was taken into custody by investigators at the Onslow County Sheriff's Office Friday. "The searches will now shift to a recovery process", the Federal Bureau of Investigation said. The warrant also says that Kimrey "secretly disposed of the dead child's body".

Kimrey is being held on a more than one million dollar bond.

A statement issued by the Sheriff's Office says the child, Mariah Woods, is believed to be dead.

Her mother told investigators she last saw Mariah Sunday, and Kimrey saw her later that night.

Miller said that the outpouring of support from the community has been "overwhelming" and asked that residents continue to support each other "as we all grieve the life of this little girl and still focus on finding her".

WCTI spoke with a 23-year-old Newport, North Carolina woman Wednesday who said she was the woman pictured in the surveillance photos. On Friday morning, the search for 3-year-old Mariah intensified with a renewed effort that included hundreds of volunteers.

The sheriff said Wilmington Police Department officers and e New Hanover County Sheriff's deputies were searching on horseback, and boats from the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries were in on the search.

The FBI said it has been sending "items of interest" to its lab in Quantico, Virginia, for priority testing in the case.

Authorities say the man charged in the disappearance of a young North Carolina girl is the boyfriend of the child's mother. "Four people in the house, two adults and two kids, someone just comes up and snatches the baby and walks out?"

Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller talked during a news conference about Mariah Woods, who vanished November 27 from her home on High Hill Road. "She's my baby. She's my everything".

At a Thursday press conference, Federal Bureau of Investigation officials said that "items of interest" were taken to Quantico for testing that could "lead us to Mariah", but did not elaborate on what the items were, or where they were located. The missing child's case has shifted to a homicide case.
