The impact of the heavy rain will be worsened by strong winds across many parts of the warning area.

Train services from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh and Wick were affected, with the line blocked between the Highland capital and Beauly. A few homes and businesses flooded.

Downpours are also expected to make driving conditions hard and public transport may be affected.

The strong winds will be accompanied by heavy rain with many places seeing between 25mm and 50mm. High winds are expected across much of England and Wales. The Met Office has warned of delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

The warning reads: "There remains some uncertainty with regards to the exact location of the heaviest rain".
