"Unfortunately, we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4 a.m.", Goodwin wrote on his Instagram after the game next to a picture of the tiny infant's hand wrapping around a fingertip.

In a devastating Instagram post with a picture of the baby's hand holding a finger, Goodwin wrote that his wife gave birth to the boy prematurely after a hard pregnancy.

At the time, no one knew the tragic pain he and his wife, Morgan, endured during the early hours of Sunday morning. "Please Pray for the Goodwin family", Goodwin wrote.

There was every reason 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin should have been rejoicing in the San Francisco lockerroom after Sunday's win.

He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, and signed with the 49ers in March 2017 after experiencing a slew of injuries in his first few seasons.

But local media report that Goodwin didn't linger after the game, leaving to be with his family. He blew a kiss to the sky and knelt to pray after the touchdown, and his team rushed to congratulate him. Many players and teams did show support of the military.

Goodwin, 26, and his 24-year-old wife are both former track stars at the University of Texas, where he also played football for the Longhorns.

Goodwin and his wife, who Wednesday in February 2016, are both accomplished athletes, having both been track and field stars while at the University of Texas at Austin.

"Despite our loss, my hubby kept grinding, scored his son a touchdown & got our first "W" of the season", she added.

In a lengthy post of her own on Instagram, Goodwin-Snow said, "This whole week has taken an emotional toll on my husband and I, struggling to keep our healthy baby safe in my womb. But that's okay because we won't stop fighting and we won't give up on what God has in store for us".
