The brother of singer Nicki Minaj has been convicted of predatory sexual assault after being charged with repeatedly raping an 11-year-old girl.

Maraj, who had denied the allegations, was tried in Nassau County, New York. The Associated Press reported a jury found Maraj guilty of predatory sexual assault November 9 following deliberations. Sentencing is to take place December 14.

Newsday reports that the girl's brother, now 10, also testified, claiming he once saw Maraj's "private parts" touching his sister.

Maraj did not appear to react when the verdict was read in a Nassau County courtroom. The defense attorney David Schwartz also accused Maraj's ex-wife of planting DNA evidence. It remains unclear if he plans to appeal the verdict. She testified in detail about how Maraj would allegedly commit sexual acts up to four times a week and sometimes twice daily.

She posted a family photo with Maraj and others a few weeks after he was arrested.

Jury deliberations began Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, in Nassau County Court.

"We hope that today's verdict will help the family in the healing process and that it will close this bad chapter in their lives", District Attorney Madeline Singas said following the guilty verdict.

The prosecution sought testimony from the victim's 10-year-old brother, who claimed that he'd once accidentally stumbled upon Maraj sexually assaulting his sister in their home, and they presented DNA evidence where an expert witness testified that semen found on the girl's pajama trousers was a one-in-291 billion match with the defendant. But she said once it did, Maraj told her she "wanted it to happen", and slapped her in the face if she refused his advances.

Maraj's ex-wife and the mother the victim testified that her daughter oddly became "distant", but made no objections when she married Maraj in August 2015. And Jelani Maraj did not testify in his own defense.
