A new series of undercover tests just further bolsters Americans' disdain for the Transportation Security Administration.

Homeland Security was trying to find the vulnerabilities at security checkpoints, and the report claims TSA agents only discovered and stopped the smuggling of 20 percent of the unpermitted items inspectors attempted to get past them.

TSA pre-check travelers are exempt from the new screenings and can leave devices in their bags when traveling through the designated pre-check line, according to the TSA.

According to ABC News, the report reveals that TSA failed most tests at US airports during an undercover operation by the Department of Homeland Security.

Twitter users questioned whether airports should still use TSA and lamented the security process.

Inspectors revealed their results on Wednesday to the House Committee on Homeland Security during a classified briefing.

Word of those security lapses has some travelers at RDU International Airport anxious.

During the House Committee on Homeland Security hearing Wednesday, Republican Rep. Mike Rogers of Alabama told TSA Administrator David Pekoske, "This agency that you run is broken badly, and it needs your attention".

US President Donald Trump sent a letter to Congress on Monday requesting $5.9 billion in new funding for the Pentagon while reiterating a plea for $1.6 billion in new funding for the border wall, Government Executive reports.

The TSA was tested recently to see if its screeners, equipment and security procedures were up to par - and the agency failed miserably, with an estimated success rate of about 20 percent, a report says.

In a statement to ABC, the agency said it "concurs with the DHS OIG findings and is committed to aggressively implementing the recommendations".

The TSA said it's implementing measures to improve screening. "We are focused on staying ahead of a dynamic threat to aviation with continued investment in the workforce, enhanced procedures and new technologies".

The TSA said it was upgrading scanners with new technology, while DHS provided eight recommendations for improving security processes.
