Facebook is trying to combat "revenge porn" by encouraging users in Australia to submit their nude photos to a pilot project created to prevent intimate images from being shared without consent.

The "preemptive revenge porn defense" will be tested in Australia and 3 other countries for now, and to execute the idea, Facebook will be partnering with e-Safety, an Australian government agency focused on preventing digital abuse.

Social media giant Facebook is trialling a new system urging its users to 'send nudes'.

The social network said it is part of a way to prevent someone from posting the photos online as a form of revenge porn.

"Yes, they're not storing a copy, but the image is still being transmitted and processed". He questions how Facebook will protect that uploaded image from hackers.

People in Australia who are concerned that a former partner may distribute intimate photos of them on Facebook can use Messenger to send the photos to be "hashed", according to the office of Australia's e-safety commissioner.

Prof Clare McGlynn, from Durham Law School, said that the United Kingdom should establish a similar organisation to Australia's e-safety commission.

The company is hoping that using the technology will save users the agony of having the pictures deleted only after reporting them to Facebook.

Users are encouraged to send intimate photos to Facebook, who will put a unique digital fingerprint on it before it is sent to the recipient.

Facebook has already gives users the option to report revenge porn, and will remove pictures and block the person who uploaded them from future sharing. Facebook, in their April announcement of the program, called the employees "specially trained representatives from our Community Operations team". The program will be tested in Australia first, followed by the U.S., U.K., and Canada, the Times of London reported.
