Court Denies Elliott's Emergency Injunction, Suspension Back On

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Elliott for six games on August 11 after a 13-month investigation concluded he was in violation of the league's personal-conduct policy for an incident in the summer of 2016. If his six-game suspension is upheld, beginning with Sunday's game against the Falcons, then he would be eligible to return the field on December 24 when the Cowboys, now 5-3, face the Seahawks at home.

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott had his latest legal motion denied by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in NY on Thursday, meaning his six-game National Football League suspension is back in effect. Dallas won't see the return of Elliott in the backfield until Christmas Eve when America's Team takes on Russell Wilson's Seattle Seahawks, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. While his legal options aren't exhausted - Thursday's ruling isn't a verdict - Elliott will miss the Cowboys' next six games. That alleged action, as a result of a 13-month investigation, was deemed to be a violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy.

A federal appeals court last month tossed out his court challenge in Texas, but the league's request for a NY court to affirm that it had acted properly led to a judge ruling last week that Elliott must begin his suspension. That ruling allowed him to play in the Cowboys' victory over the Kansas City Chiefs two days later.

"This is bigger than a suspension, this is bigger than football", Elliott told reporters. The league concluded the Cowboys' second-year Pro Bowler physically harmed former girlfriend Tiffany Thompson in July 2016, the summer before he began his rookie season.

Elliott is second in the NFL with 783 rushing yards and tied for the league lead with seven rushing scores.
