'Call of Duty: WWII' Debuts to Half a Billion Dollar Launch Weekend

Call of Duty WW2 sales analysis new title storms UK retail Call of Duty: WWII Launch Update! - Activision Community - Sledgehammer Games

Activision's Call of Duty: WWII opening weekend raked in over $500 million in sold-through copies worldwide - doubling last year's sales for Infinite Warfare.

Along with the massive monetary figure, the first-person shooter also set a PlayStation 4 record by becoming the "best-selling digital full game", by units sold on day-one.

Call of Duty: WWII was one of the most highly-anticipated games heading into its launch on November 3-and the numbers from WWII's opening weekend support this claim.

Call of Duty WW2 is out now on consoles and PC. It is completely amplified by the capabilities of new technology, innovations, higher graphics fidelity and it is Call Of Duty: "WWII like you've never seen before". In a press release sent to GamesBeat, Activision notes that this opening tops the starting weekends for Thor: Ragnarok and Wonder Woman combined.

Thankfully [for Activision], this year's Call of Duty: WWII launch has been much better received by gamers.

"We challenged our players to get their squads back together and they answered the call, with the highest number of players weve ever seen on current gen consoles and PC, ” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision".

Call of Duty: WWII strips down the experience that had become quite chaotic in recent releases and took the series back to its roots.

The 25-kill killstreak from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one that many CoD veterans will fondly remember as a game-ending signal that you dominated the enemy team, a killstreak that drops a massive nuke on the map and instantly gives you a victory. This is good news for Call of Duty developer and publisher but the Steam reviews aren't very positive.
