'Shameless' actor arrested in Burbank for alleged pot DUI

Episode 609 Ethan Cutkosky as Carl Gallagher in Shameless
Edmund Wade | 08 November, 2017, 00:56

Shameless star Ethan Cutkosky, who plays Carl on the Showtime series, had a real Gallagher moment recently. Sgt. Derek Green, a spokesman for the Burbank Police Department, said the actor was reportedly driving at an unsafe speed, making risky turning movements and straddling between lanes.

Cutkosky, who was reportedly driving an orange BMW, was given a field sobriety test during the pull-over, TMZ reported. It is not known if the arrest was for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Illinois native was released from jail after posting a $5,000 bail. According to Green, a chemical blood test was then performed but the results are still pending.

Law enforcement said officers smelled marijuana in the auto during the stop, and TMZ sources said Ethan admitted he'd been smoking weed that night. He's slated to appear in court on November 29.

Cutkosky, who has been working in the entertainment industry since he was 7 years old, has been a cast member of Shameless since the show aired in 2011.

The eighth season of "Shameless" began airing on Sunday.

Reps for Cutkosky did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. Last season, after helping sell illegal drugs and firearms, Carl cleaned up his act and went to military school.
