Koenigsegg Agera RS The Koenigsegg Agera RS Is Now the Fastest Production Car Ever Made

The 1,341 hp vehicle made two runs on the dead-straight highway, one in each direction, and its speeds were averaged as required for Guinness-recognized world record. It achieved a two-way average of 270.49mph on Valentine's Day in 2014.

277.9mph - and that's the average.

The attempt took place at Pahrump, Nevada, with factory drier Niklas Lilja behind the wheel. The speed in other, uphill, upwind direction was 271mph. If the run is successful, it will put a huge gap in front of the current Agera RS record that's going to be very hard to beat - until the next major hypercar comes along, that is.

It's the final, ultimate model in the company's long-serving Agera line. Powered by a bi-turbo 5.0-litre V8, the Agera RS develops 1360bhp of power and a whopping 1371Nm of torque and weighs a shade under 1300kg. Earlier in October, Koenigsegg took another record from Bugatti, smashing the 0-400-0 km/h record.

Where did the Koenigsegg record run happen?

The test was carried out on a piece of arrow-straight road that spanned no less than 11 miles between Las Vegas and Pahrhump, and was closed to the public during the test.

The video of the run, recorded and verified by Racelogic VBOX, captures the blistering speed of the Agera RS. When un-restricted, Bugatti claims 310mph potential.

The biggest cause for concern during the run was the off-the-shelf Michelin Cup 2 tyres, which have never been tested at such high speeds.

On its first run the Koenigsegg registered a top speed of 271.2mph, beating the Veyron even while battling an incline and oncoming winds.
