The fairy tale reign of Bob Iger continues at Walt Disney Company with the news that 21st Century Fox is looking to unload a number of major properties to their rival in what would be one of the biggest media sales in history. In addition worldwide assets, such as Star and BSkyB, he reported that Disney is seeking to add entertainment networks such as FX and Nat Geo.

According to the sources, Disney would not buy all of Fox and the goal would be to form a much stronger traditional Hollywood studio in an era of fierce competition from internet companies like Netflix and Hulu.

Neither Disney nor Fox has commented on the apparent scoop, and it's crucial to note that there's no guarantee anything will happen.

Fox's motivation for examining selling off everything but news and sports can be read in a few different ways.

The company could not own two broadcast networks and would therefore not buy the Fox broadcast network.

Fox was willing to discuss an acquisition with Disney because its senior management believed the way to scale its media properties was not by buying others, the report said. That £11.7bn ($15.41bn) deal has run afoul of regulators' concerns about media plurality in the United Kingdom and the Murdochs' commitment to broadcasting standards. But Disney, which owns, Marvel Studios, doesn't control the movie rights to every Marvel character. Fox's sports channels would also not be combined with ESPN to avoid anti-trust scrutiny.

There's also the question of what it would mean for Fox to be focused even more on news and sports. As of right now, Disney's MCU can not make movies about Deadpool, Wolverine and more.

It'd definitely be interesting. Eastern, while Disney stock also rose from an opening of $98.37 to $100.49.

Shares of Twenty-First Century Fox rose some 7 percent to $26.80 in afternoon trade while Disney was up almost 2 percent to $100.30.
