In a column for Tamil weekly magazine Ananda Vikatan, Haasan wrote that while earlier, "the Hindu right wing would not indulge in violence, but instead held debates", it now "used muscle power instead of dialogue" once the old tactic failed. The outfit says that no one has the right to abuse Hinduism and live in the holy land.

Several leaders of the Mahasabha have demanded that "Kamal Haasan and the likes of him should either be shot dead or hanged (sic)". "But we can not deny their existence".

The actor has been booked under sections 500 (Punishment for defamation), 511, 298 (hurting religious sentiment), 295-A (intend to outrage religious feelings), and 505-C (attempt to incite hatred enmity between classes) of the Indian Penal Code.

"The Hindus can not challenge others to show extremists among them since extremism has spread to that extent even among the Hindus", Haasan wrote in a weekly column, titled "One can not say there is no Hindu terror anymore", in Tamil magazine "Ananda Vikatan". They too started indulging in violence. "All the party members have pledged that we will boycott all the movies which star him and his family members".

"The people who insult Hindus and their religion should not be forgiven", he was quoted as saying.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the Hindu Mahasabha leader's statement and said stringent action should be taken against those making such threats.

The actors also urged the people to get involved in relief work in flood-affected parts of Tamil Nadu.

While BJP leaders like Vinay Katiyar called Kamal "mentally unstable", the RSS has also hit out at the actor.
