The recall includes more than 100 different models manufactured between 1973 and 2017.

According to the recall notice "The fire extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire emergency". Including the death, the CPSC says there have been 391 reports of extinguishers failing to work properly or of nozzles coming off, resulting in 16 injuries that included smoke inhalation and minor burns. The nozzle also can detach with enough force to be risky.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of about 37.8 million Kidde fire extinguishers. 38 million of those extinguishers with plastic nozzles, made by Kidde, are under recall today. Reports show emergency responders were not able to get the fire extinguisher to function.

The recall involves two styles of Kidde fire extinguishers: those with plastic handles and those with a push-button on top.

Participants of the Healthy Neighborhoods Program may have received one of these recalled fire extinguishers.

He also says to replace your extinguisher if it's more than six years old. They can be found on the shelves of Walmart, Home Depot and can even be purchased online on Amazon.

Customers with the recalled fire extinguishers should contact Kidde to request a free replacement extinguisher.

Certain models of extinguishers also come equipped inside commercial trucks, RVs, and personal watercraft like a boat of jet ski.
