The OnePlus 5T will have a headphone jack

OnePlus co-founder shares a portrait mode photo teasing the OnePlus 5T OnePlus 5T Name, 3.5mm Jack Presence All But Confirmed

In the post, Pete Lau dives deeper into the company's decision to keep the 3.5mm jack around. In it, Lau confirmed the phone's name and a presence of a headphone jack: "Nearly 80 per cent of our users use in-jack headphones", he said, "is it worth the trade off?"

OnePlus 5T could launch on November 16: Here's a look at everything we know about the device. Our initial reaction to Pei's tweet was that the joker is the card in the pack that stands out, which we took as meaning the OnePlus phones will stand out against competition because it will retain the headphone jack.

Lau says that OnePlus thinks the headphone jack is still necessary for two reasons. The company believes that "for the time being" it is best to stick with the headphone jack because wireless earbuds don't provide the same level of audio quality. Keeping the headphone jack allows our users to continue to take full advantage of the excellent range of audio choices on the market. Are the best wireless headphones comparable to the best of the wired?

"But as you get closer to the under $200 category, the options are more limited". Not to mention our own Bullet V2 earphones. At one point, we thought about using another USB-C port to replace the 3.5 mm audio port. That would have been insane.

Carl Pei (CEO of OnePlus) has been teasing images on Twitter of the capabilities of the new 5T and they indeed look promising, providing a lot of minor but much needed improvements over the OnePlus 5.

Days after the OnePlus 5T leaked out, the OnePlus CEO is ready to talk about why it will have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Cheap wireless headphones still aren't as good as wired ones and 2. giving users the freedom of using whatever headphones you want, without any additional accessories.

His post ends with the following quote: "our goal from the beginning has been to bring better technology to the world". That's why we prioritize the user and make good technology accessible. Pei did that because Lau, in the post detailing the rationale behind the company's decisions, said, "Sometimes, industry trends go against our core beliefs". This is one of those times when we respectfully disagree on what it means to be courageous.

That is a bit ironic considering that OnePlus was pretty quick to copy the iPhone 7 with the OnePlus 5.
