Three skydivers have died in Queensland after they apparently collided mid-air and their chutes got tangled.

Paramedics were called to Alexandra Drive, Mission Beach, about 3.15pm on Friday.

Police believe the solo skydiver may have collided with the tandem skydivers in mid-air, with their parachutes failing to open properly.

Our thoughts are with the families of the two men, thought to be in their thirties, and the one woman, in her fifties, who died in the accident.

Vision captured shortly before the fatalities has emerged of other tourists successfully completing their jumps at the beach.

She had been linked to a highly experienced instructor when the collision happened.

The two others were discovered soon afterwards, where they had become entangled in a nearby tree.

One of the deceased is understood to have been a highly experienced instructor who had completed thousands of jumps and was diving solo at the time.

One shocked onlooker said: "You could see one chute was tangled and it wasn't opening".

"I was just watching him in free fall until he went behind the trees, and that was the last I saw", he said.

The area is a popular spot for skydivers and this is the worst incident in history for the area.

'It wasn't good to watch.

The company involved was named as Skydive Australia, which offers skydiving from 18 locations across Australia. I had my heart in my mouth'.

But police are now investigating the cause of the deaths after the parachute of a pair of tandem skydivers and that of another male skydiver failed to deploy properly.
