Mauricio Pochettino: Tottenham Hotspur player's laughing about Pep Guardiola's comments

Man City boss Pep Guardiola referred to Tottenham as the "Harry Kane team" prior to the worldwide break, which Pochettino saw as "disrespectful", despite the former considering Spurs legitimate title contenders alongside the Cityzens, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho is ready to table a £170million bid for Harry Kane, reports The Sun, with the paper claiming that the United manager is "keen to bring him to Old Trafford".

Kane was named as Premier League player of the month on Friday after a sensational run of form saw the England striker score 13 times for club and country in September.

Pochettino also brought up Guardiola's success at Barcelona, which was inspired by Lionel Messi, and he noted how he had never called them "the Messi team".

Guardiola made the dig after Manchester City's win at Chelsea on September 30 while listing his side's title rivals.

"I know Pep", Pochettino was quoted as saying by Goal, "When he's excited after an unbelievable win he struggles to keep his position and be a gentleman".

"I don't know why he said it, why he showed too much respect to Manchester United because in the same way he could have said "Lukaku team". That is my opinion like I respect his opinion, but I think the players motivation is the same. "It wasn't disrespectful for myself". "Maybe I can answer something where I attack my team or my club, but never would I be disrespectful about Mauricio or Tottenham".

Guardiola regularly praised a host of Tottenham players last season and sanctioned a move in the region of £50million to secure Spurs' England full-back Kyle Walker during the transfer window.

"The reality was it was very disrespectful and it is hard to understand", stated Pochettino when asked about Guardiola's comments on his team. "Never in my career have I not been respectful". But if you're a manager, you must show more - be above this type of comment.

"It's a sad comment", he had concluded.

Pochettino was asked whether he had spoken to Guardiola about the comment.

"What he said was disrespectful to many", the Argentine told a news conference. "I'm sure I will reply", he added.

The Sun says that the Red Devils "sounded out Spurs two years ago", offering the north London outfit £40m, plus Javier Hernandez, only to see their proposal laughed out of White Hart Lane.
