Twitter Shuts Down Pro-Life Ad, Calling It "Inflammatory" and "Negative"

Twitter blocked a campaign ad for a Republican Senate candidate running to take Sen. "I fought Planned Parenthood, and we stopped the sale of baby body parts -thank God".

Twitter has blocked an ad campaign by Tennessee Rep. Marsha Blackburn after it was "deemed an inflammatory statement that is likely to evoke a strong negative reaction". In a campaign email, Blackburn said the block on her advertisement illustrated how "Silicon Valley elites" are imposing their values on the general public.

Blackburn has served in the House for almost 15 years, so it's a bit of a stretch for her to run on Trump's "drain the swamp" message.

While the videos claim to show the representative of Planned Parenthood admitting to selling infant body parts for profit, the tapes have come under considerable scrutiny for being strategically edited.

Social media platforms have come under fire in both the USA and overseas for enabling the spread of extremist content and "fake news", but Twitter surprised many in Washington on Monday with its decision to block a United States congresswoman's campaign ad. Twitter reportedly deemed this an "inflammatory statement" and told Blackburn's ad vendors that the ad could run on the platform once that part of the ad was omitted. Videos that were released by pro-life activist David Daleiden clearly revealed that Planned Parenthood engages in the illegal sale of body parts harvested from murdered babies. It can be shared by retweet, and since Blackburn's campaign went public with its situation, the video has actually been retweeted more than 15,000 times.

"The Blackburn campaign account tweeted the ad this afternoon, and asked viewers to "[stand] up to Silicon Valley" by retweeting it.

Just last month, Lila Rose of the anti-abortion group Live Action accused Twitter of suppressing the organization's ads and even asking it to make changes to its own website.

Speaking with Fox News' Brian Kilmeade, Blackburn called it "astounding" that Twitter would "censor a political ad" and a "pro-life message". "It's something that people wanted to see shut down".

In the video, Rep. Blackburn (R-Tenn.) brags about her concealed carry permit, claims to be in favor of Trump's "immigration ban", despite the fact that the president never proposed any such thing (it was more a "Muslim ban"), and criticizes sitting Republican senators for acting "like Democrats or worse".
