Mane was substituted in the 89th minute of Senegal's win, and Liverpool have now confirmed the player's injury.

All told, the Senegal global is expected to miss at least nine matches in the league and Europe after being taken off late in the second half during Saturday's 2-0 win over Cape Verde.

The injury was picked up during that same fixture and could keep him out of action for six weeks.

Liverpool forward Sadio Mané could be out of action for up to six weeks after picking up a hamstring injury on global duty, his club confirmed this afternoon.

The former Red Bull Salzburg man netted 13 goals in 27 Premier League appearances last term, and has scored three in four so far this season.

The timing is also all wrong for the manager, with high-flying Manchester United visiting on Saturday morning and Klopp needing a positive result to kick-start Liverpool's season.

Liverpool won just once in seven matches in all competitions during his time away with Senegal. Needless to say, though, the quickest way to make up that deficit would be by beating the latter and without Mane, that appears less likely - in turn putting more pressure on the remaining games he is expected to miss, against Huddersfield, West Ham and Southampton.

But the forward has already missed three Premier League matches this season, having been sent off for a high boot on Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson last month.
