Windows Mobile is 'no longer a focus' for Microsoft

Win7, 8 users being put at risk by Microsoft: Google Windows Mobile is 'no longer a focus' for Microsoft

(Web Desk) - Microsoft has officially announced that its smartphone brand Windows Phone is dead for good and there will be no new models for the consumers or major updates.

Joe, like Microsoft Founder Bill Gates, no longer uses a smartphone running Windows 10 Mobile OS. With Belfiore's confirmation that new hardware isn't the focus at Microsoft, rumors of a new Surface Phone seem to be dead in the water.

Scrapping Windows Phone Leaves Microsoft's Mobile Plans in Tatters.

The idea is to give users of Windows on the desktop who own iOS and Android phones the look and feel of the Edge browser in new apps built specifically for the dominant mobile operating systems.

He also explained the reason why the company has made a decision to abandon the platform which doesn't really surprise us. According to the most recent sales figures from Kantar Worldpanel, Windows phones account for just 1.3 percent of the market in the U.S., bested only by BlackBerry at 0.3 percent. The aim was to develop some of the best Windows Phone devices, which it did indeed but failed to get the number of buyers required to make the strategy a success.

It wasn't that the technology itself was bad, but when competing in a marketplace dominated by Android and iOS, there was little chance of standing out, according to Jack Gold, principal analyst at J. Gold Associates. All this has led to Microsoft giving up on the Windows phone.

He wrote: "Of course we'll continue to support the platform".

For Microsoft, failure is scathing, especially after the fiasco of the purchase of the phone department of Nokia for almost $ 5 billion in 2013.

He has a point - developers don't want to bother creating apps no one will use, and in a vicious circle, users don't want to start using an operating system without apps.

"We have tried VERY HARD to [incentivize] app devs", Belfiore wrote. Belfiore's tweets indicated that Microsoft can no longer survive in fierce competition against Apple's iOS and Google's Android. The Windows Phone operating system used Microsoft's Metro UI and offered a smattering of live tiles for its homescreen.
