India lose to Colombia at FIFA U-17 World Cup

Fifa U-17 World Cup India vs USA 'Eager to bounce back'

A pulsating first half saw India come ever so close to breaking the deadlock. "I think I will sleep well today", de Matos said at the post-match press conference. With two holding midfielders in front of a four-man defence line, they wanted to keep it tight at the back and sting like a bee in attack, similar to the U.S. match.

The glaring exclusion from India's starting XI were forwards Aniket Jadhav and Komal Thatal, who both had a good outing against USA.

The South Americans initially tried to cause problems for the Indian defence by taking long throws to penetrate, but failing to get past the defenders.

Colombian players used their physicality time and again to win tackles and break-up play. "We are looking forward to play against them very nicely".

The thirsty children, after braving the heat for hours and cheering their team for the entire first half, were forced to fight for as basic an amenity as water.

Restrepo was all praise for India's centre backs Anwar Ali and Namit Deshpande and said their performance forced him to opt for Plan B. However, Jeakson Singh Thaunaojam's goal gave much solace to the Indian fans that have always been yearning to see their team play in the World Cup.

The score at half-time remained 0-0, with 68% possession dominated by the away side. The Indian fans took to Twitter to celebrate the magnificent goal.

India scored when Jeakson, the tallest player in the side, headed in a Sanjeev Stalin corner, sending the whole stadium into a state of delirium.

Had Abhijit Sarkar stayed calm and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Kevin Mier in the 16th minute instead of shooting at him, after ominously dancing his way inside the box, India could have even taken the lead. Penaloza had already netted in the 49th minute and his second sealed the match 2-1 for Colombia.

In the final minutes of the match, India tried to combine and utilise the precious moments to find an equaliser but failed to do so giving away too many balls to the strong Colombia attack.
