IN TWEETS: Dove slammed for racist ad

IN TWEETS: Dove slammed for racist ad Dove under fire for 'racist' Facebook ad

"Dove is committed to representing the beauty of diversity, ' the company said on Facebook".

These ads were heavily criticised on Facebook and Twitter, with people bringing up older campaigns done by Dove to prove that they had always been racist.

The ad has since been deleted.

Dove has been compelled to apologize for a Facebook advert that seemed to demonstrate a black woman turning white subsequent to washing herself with its item.

Another image shows the white woman undressing to reveal an Asian woman.

Makeup artist Naomi Leann Blake shared images from the ad on Facebook in a post that soon went viral.

The red-faced personal care brand quickly pulled the ad and issued a statement on its Facebook page.

And to put a comedic spin on it all, a man filmed himself copying the popular trend of throwing things down the toilet and emptied a Dove bottle down the drain.

A few users brought up instances when the brand had other questionable marketing ploys that seemed to paint blackness as undesired.

"We deeply regret the offense it caused", the brand tweeted. What were you going for, exactly?

"This is gross. You think people of color can just wash away their melanin and become white? Your creative director should be fired". "Will not be buying your products anymore", one woman wrote. In 2011, a controversial ad showed three women standing in front of a wall designated in "before" and "after". After the ad received criticism, Dove released a statement looking to clarify its objective.

Dove said in a statement to Gawker, "All three women are meant to demonstrate the "after" product benefit".
