Several Ravens, Jags kneel during anthem

Trump Attack On NFL Backfires As Players Kneel In Protest During National Anthem Former LSU star Leonard Fournette among two dozen players to kneel for national anthem in London

During the start of Sunday's first NFL game, about a dozen players from the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars took a knee during the playing of the national anthem before the start of the teams' game at Wembley Stadium. Mosley, Terrell Suggs and Za'Darius Smith, defensive tackle Carl Davis and defensive backs Tony Jefferson, Lardarius Webb and Anthony Levine Sr.

On Sunday morning, New England Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft, who has dined with Trump and who the president considers a friend, criticised Trump and defended players' right to protest. "He told a crowd in Alabama that he'd like to see an NFL owner who has a player kneeling during the National Anthem say, "'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now'" and fire him. On Sunday morning, Davis addressed the now infamous statements made by the President of the United States while making it very clear that his Raiders players will be free to express themselves in any way they see fit going forward.

California Rep. Ted Lieu, a Democrat who has been critical of Trump, said the president has "no moral standing" to call for National Football League players to be fired for kneeling in protest.

Earlier in the morning the president had continued his tirade against the National Football League on Twitter commenting on attendances and ratings being "WAY DOWN", but 84,592 were at Wembley, a new record since games were first hosted in England a decade ago. "And that owner, they don't know it [but] they'll be the most popular person in this country". New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, a major Trump presidential campaign donor, was confirmed by the Senate last month as Trump's pick to serve as US ambassador to Britain. The NFL and its team owners have stood by their players.

Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis has found himself previously in the center of the Colin Kaepernick controversy, whose unemployment traces (whether anyone admits it or not) to his decision to become the first player to not stand during the national anthem. All voices need to be heard. "Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!"

Several players from both teams took a knee during the rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner as it was sang at Wembley Stadium while other players stood and locked arms in solidarity. "We have a lot of work to do, and we can do it, but the comments by the President make it harder", Khan added.

On Saturday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell issued a statement criticising Trump's comments.

"We recognize our players' influence". There is no better example than the unbelievable response from our clubs and players to awful natural disasters we've experienced over the last month.
