Rights monitors and fleeing Rohingya say the army and Buddhist vigilantes have mounted a campaign to drive out the Muslim population and torch their villages.

Fleeing refugees - sometimes women with small children and without husbands and fathers - are getting drowned.

Muslims have lived in the area now known as Myanmar since as early as the 12th century, according to many historians and Rohingya groups.

However, the company admitted it mistakes do happen, but said it would act quickly to resolve them.

The head of a United Nations investigation into violence in Myanmar asked on Tuesday for more time to look into allegations of mass killings of Rohingya Muslims, as well as torture, sexual violence and the burning of villages.

That directly contradicts a report issued last month by former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, which rightly placed blame on military and police actions against the stateless - and economically oppressed - Rohingya Muslims.

The government told Parliament on August 9 that more than 14,000 Rohingyas, registered with the UNHCR, stay in India. But Bangladesh relented, overpopulated as that country is, because Bengal is where the Rohingya came from long ago.

Spelling out the problems illegal immigrants were posing, the Centre further said that some Rohingyas were indulging in illegal activities such as mobilization of funds through hawala channels, procuring fake identify documents-PAN (permanent account number) and voter card-and indulging in human trafficking.

Foreign aid groups said that made them a target of local hostility-and many have reined in or stopped their operations for safety reasons.

This prompted the government to file the 15-page affidavit before the bench headed by Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, where the Indian government hinted that the SC shouldn't interfere in executive policy dealing with illegal Rohingya migrants.

Aree Arif, a coordinator with the Sheikul Islam Office's Council for Humanitarian Networking told Efe news on Wednesday that a team is preparing to travel to Cox's Bazar next week to supply aid kits to the Rohingya refugees living in overcrowded camps in the city.

Van Thio did not use the term Rohingya, referring to them simply as Muslims.

"But I want to tell them that the non-refoulement principle is applicable to those who take asylum".

The plea said that India has ratified and is a signatory to various conventions that recognise the Principle of "Non-Refoulement', which prohibits deportation of refugees to a country where they may face threat to their lives".

"People are still at risk of being attacked or killed, humanitarian aid is not reaching the people who need it, and innocent civilians are still fleeing across the border to Bangladesh", Haley said after Britain hosted a meeting on the crisis in NY on Monday.

The recent wave of attack by Myanmar military and allied mobs has caused displacement of thousands of people to neighboring country Bangladesh.

Numerous more than 420,000 refugees have accused Myanmar's ethnic Rakhine Buddhists of participating in the attacks on their villages that forced them to seek refuge in Bangladesh.

However, she did not address the United Nations accusations of ethnic cleansing by the military, which is in charge of security.
