Sort of ironic that a water pump can cause a fire, isn't it?

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 443,712 Ram pickup trucks in the United States for faulty water pumps that can potentially catch fire, the company said Tuesday.

According to FCA's statement, the company is recalling 443,712 medium and heavy duty trucks in the US, 46,220 trucks in Canada, and another 4,485 trucks world-wide.

The medium and heavy-duty Ram trucks, models "2500" and "3500", have a water pump that could overheat and potentially start a fire. Of these, he said, "a smaller number involved damage", but the reports did not involve damage beyond "the immediate area of the water pump". The vast majority of the impacted units are in the U.S.

Affected customers will be advised when service becomes available.

They said they weren't aware of any injuries or accidents related to the recall, and that they no longer use the water pump in question in new vehicles. The action isn't the first one this year involving Ram pickups.

Fiat Chrysler notes that, in the event of compromised water pump functionality, an indicator light may appear in the instrument cluster.
