"If they find that this facility was not meeting the state's high standards of care, they will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law".

The center, which police sealed off as a crime scene on Wednesday, was officially ordered closed to new admissions by the state's Agency for Health Care Administration.

"The people who were working there worked hard to make a good outcome for our patients", she said in a brief interview before hanging up on a reporter.

"When asked if they had any medical needs or emergencies, (the nursing home) did not request assistance or indicate any medical emergency existed", Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief said in a statement.

A woman went to check on her parents at about 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills and shot a 34-second video of a fan running in their room with a window cracked on the second floor. About an hour later, crews grew concerned when they received a second call for a resident with breathing problems.

Police in Hollywood, Florida, are investigating the deaths of eight nursing home patients after Hurricane Irma damaged the facility's air conditioning system, subjecting its residents to the sweltering September heat.

Gov. Rick Scott's office released a statement Friday, saying the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills had not reported that conditions at its facility had become unsafe for patients.

Dozens of the state's senior centers still lacked electricity in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, and several facilities were forced to evacuate. Florida has about 680 nursing homes providing shelter to around 73, 000 residents and out of them, around 150 facilities are now devoid of full power supply. The separate Florida Assisted Living Association said many of its South Florida members lacked electricity.
