Perera made a whirlwind 19-ball 47 not out with five sixes, while Hashim Amla finished not out 72 off 55 balls to help the World XI overhaul a 175-run target and level the three-match series 1-1 before a packed Gaddafi stadium in Lahore. Soon after playing the final match, the World XI team will leave for Dubai in the wee hours of Saturday. "The score was good enough, but if the execution was better in defending, we would have pulled it off".

The second T20I will be played at Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.

Earlier, Pakistan posted 174-6 against the World XI. Both Ahmed Shehzad and Babar Azam struggled to get the boundary shots as the World XI bowling attack made brisk scoring hard. For the third wicket stand, Amla partnering with captain Faf du Plessis added important 35 runs, as the captain gifted his wicket to M Imad.

At 135, Babar was sent back by Badree, who had the batsman - looking to smash the bowler over long-on - caught by Miller at deep mid-on for a 38-ball 45 studded with five fours. It was a collective effort from the Pakistan batting line up which kept the scoreboard ticking but they were not allowed to run away with it in the death overs.

Babar Azam and Ahmed Shehzad had combined to put on a 59-run stand for the second-wicket but had failed to really get the acceleration that was desired on the pitch. In the first match of Independence Cup, he leaked as many as 51 runs and then scored a mere 17 in a pursuit of colossal total.

Badree was one of two changes made by World XI along with England's Paul Collingwood - playing his first global since retiring in 2011.

Still needing 33 runs off the last two overs, Perera and Amla took 20 off Sohail's 19th over that saw Shoaib Malik dropping the Sri Lankan left-hander's easy catch at long off.

Pakistan's experienced batsman Malik (39) lifted the total when he hit Cutting for two sixes in his 23-ball knock. Left-arm tweaker Mohammad Nawaz, and promising young pacer Usman Shinwari, came into the side for Faheem Ashraf and Hasan Ali, respectively.

BOWLING: Morkel 4-0-20-0 (3w); Cutting 4-0-52-1 (2w); Badree 4-0-31-2 (1w); Collingwood 2-0-18-0 (1w); Perera 3-0-23-1 (1nb); Imran Tahir 3-0-29-1 (1w).
