BSF man killed in cross-border firing in J&K

One BSF jawan was killed as Pakistan's forces resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing in Arnia sector along the International Border in Jammu district today. The martyred soldier was identified as Ct Bijender Banadur of Uttar Pradesh.

He said constable Brijendra Bahadur Singh of 192 bn BSF, sustained bullet injuries in abdomen in Pakistani troops firing at Shahnaz post early in the morning. He is made due by his better half Sushmita Singh. A civilian also got injured in the incident.

India alleged that Pakistani Rangers fired mortar shells and automatic rifles at border posts in five places along the Arnia sector, terming it as a violation of the 2003 ceasefire accord.

The official said BSF troops retaliated strongly and gave a befitting reply to the Pak firing.

Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan had accused Indian soldiers of unprovoked firing.

Pakistan has accused India of committing more than 700 ceasefire violations in the first nine months of this year which has resulted in the killing of 32 Pakistani civilians.

Pakistan has been resorting to cease fire violations. Till August 1, there have been 285 such actions by the Pakistan army, while in 2016, the number was significantly less at 228 for the entire year, according to figures by the Indian Army.
