Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center and Children's Hospital received three pediatric patients, spokeswoman Nicole Stewart said. County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich told reporters the shooter was a student who was armed with more than one weapon, reportedly a rifle and a handgun.

Following the tragic incident, Officer Knezovich stated he believed the incident stemmed from "a bullying type situation", however, those who knew Sharpe best don't seem to agree with him.

Schaeffer confirmed the person in custody was the lone shooter and didn't release the suspect's age. He also said the suspect was obsessed with other school shootings.

According to the Spokesman Review, the shooter has been identified as Caleb Sharpe.

It was then that a fearless custodian put his life on the line, attempting to convince Sharpe to stop the madness, the Associated Press reports. In one video, Sharpe pretends to shoot a friend before going inside to play a video game, reports CBS News' Mireya Villarreal. He attempted to fire one of them and it jammed, which is when Strahan walked up to him, according to KREM.

There, at around 10 a.m., one student brandished the guns he had stashed in a duffel bag, determined to begin his rampage. "He was walking around", Elisa Vigil, a 14-year-old freshman, told the Spokesman-Review.

Alarming footage has been unearthed on YouTube showing Sharpe kill a friend with toy guns. They act out a scenario where they search for a neighborhood drug dealer. The Spokesman-Review, a local news site, said the student was tackled by a school custodian. Sharpe is expected to make a court appearance on Thursday.

The day before the school shooting outside Spokane, the rural school district conducted a routine lockdown drill.

Cheryl Moser said her son, a freshman at Freeman High School, called her from a classroom after hearing shots fired.

A high school principal advocated for mental health treatment instead of jail time for a former student who shot him in the arm and chest. "That student did not survive", Knezovich said.

No motive has been offered for the shootings.

A student shot and killed another student and wounded three others Wednesday at a high school in the northwestern state of Washington before being disarmed, authorities said.

The suspect, who a classmate described as being obsessed with previous school shootings, was taken into custody.

"I know the people of Freeman would also appreciate if you could please hug on and love on your own children, treat others with dignity and respect, and now more than ever tell others how much you love them".

"The shooter has been apprehended and is taken into custody,"said Schaffer".
