Coach Paterno had prior knowledge Sandusky was child sex abuser: police report

He told police that in 2001 when he told Paterno he witnessed Sandusky abusing a child in the Penn State locker room, Paterno said he had heard a similar complaint once before.

A criminal investigation into Sandusky did not begin until a Pennsylvania school district reported another complaint about him in 2008.?

A previously unreleased police report written 10 years after the most infamous incident in the Jerry Sandusky child rape scandal at Penn State revealed more evidence that Joe Paterno knew about his assistant coach's horrific behavior before 2001.

Sanducky was convicted of 45 counts of child sexual abuse in 2012 and is now serving his 30-60 year prison sentence. He maintains his innocence and is in the midst of a Post-conviction Collateral Relief Act petition seeking dropped charges or a new trial.

Because of McQueary and Paterno legally doing the right thing and following their "chain of command" when reporting sexual abuse, new laws have been put in place where someone is required to report any sexual molestation to the police. The three university officials told Sandusky not to bring children onto campus anymore, and police were not notified.

It regards a legal battle between Penn State and insurance companies over who's ultimately responsible for $60 million in settlements to Sandusky's victims.

Q: Other than the incident that Mike McQueary reported to you, do you know in any way, through rumor, direct knowledge or any other fashion, of any other inappropriate sexual conduct by Jerry Sandusky with young boys?

Paterno died in January 2012.

It contradicts the head coach's testimony before a grand jury and his published statement a week before he passed in 2012 that he "had "no inkling" that Sandusky might be a sexual deviant", until he heard the shocking news from McQueary in 2001.

Efforts to reach the Paterno family Saturday were not immediately successful. "I wish I had done more", was his response when he was sacked from his job after 46 years at the helm.

"You know, [McQueary] didn't want to get specific", Paterno said during the interview.

Paterno was sacked by the Penn State board of trustees in a special meeting later that night.
