Six-star Lyon were supported by braces from Cummins and O'Keefe in the demolition job.

The hosts lost their grip after bowling out Australia for 377 in their first innings without adding a run to the overnight total. With 6/33 Lyon bagged his 12 th five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Offspinner Lyon proved the hero for Australia, backing up his seven-wicket haul in Bangladesh's first dig to record career-best match figures of 13-154.

Relieved after Australia dodged a humbling test series defeat to Bangladesh, skipper Steve Smith says his side must address their constant batting collapses or risk losing the Ashes.

A 2-0 series loss would have sent Australia tumbling to No 6 on the world test rankings, their lowest point in nearly 30 years. Mustafizur Rahman also picked up three wickets, while Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam picked up a wicket each.

Electing to bat first, Bangladesh was bowled out for 305 in its first innings before Warner's second successive century (123) guided Australia to 377 and earned a crucial 72-run lead.

The swashbuckling Warner played a sedate innings, having hit just four boundaries during his 170-ball stay at the crease so far.

It was a missed opportunity for the hosts, who have still only claimed Test series wins against Zimbabwe and a weakened West Indies in their 17-history in the game's longest format.

In the second over, Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Lyon, who edged a ball to first slip.

Play started two-and-a-half hours later than scheduled due to heavy rain, and it resumed on a similar note to what the second day had ended on, with the Australians hardly facing trouble piling on the runs.

Bangladesh started the day on a high, dismissing number 11 batsman Lyon in the second over of the day. The wicketkeeper-batsman was caught behind. "We could have taken a bigger lead in the first innings but credit to Bangladesh, they really made us fight in this series".

Nathan Lyon (five for 77) claimed four early wickets as Bangladesh slipped to 117 for five but Mushfiqur (62 not out) and Sabbir (66) lifted them to 253 for six at the close.

Lyon took the new ball and made an immediate impact, trapping Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Soumyar Sarkar and Mominul Haque leg before. Fortunately for Bangladesh, two runs later Shakib produced a handsome finger-spinner's delivery that drifted away from the left-handed Agar, invited the drive and spat straight through the gap to hit timber and leave Australia at 376 for nine.
