After the summer transfer window closed, manager Arsene Wenger admitted that Sanchez wasn't very close to moving to City, and the Gunners massively dropped the ball on finding a replacement for him.

On transfer deadline day it appeared the 28 year-old would finally get his move to Manchester City as Arsenal agreed a £60m deal.

Sanchez looked miserable during Arsenal's 4-0 thrashing at Liverpool prior to the global break and then suffered successive defeats with Chile in World Cup qualifying.

"If people say that because I move from club to club, they're right, but I don't think I am [a short-term manager]".

"The flexibility of his ankle looks good, his mobility is good and now it's about getting back to full fitness without having any setbacks", Wenger said in his pre-match press conference. He suffered and had a negative experience with Chile and he's strong mentally and hopefully he'll be back quickly to his best.

After spending more than £200m in the transfer market, reports suggest Manchester City are not interested in paying over the odds for Sanchez. While Wenger did not clarify exactly what those personal reasons were, he admitted that Arsenal's hard campaign made him even more hesitant to sign a contract extension.

And if Arsenal are to achieve anything this season they will have to have Sanchez, who is by far their best player, on top form.

It was the first post from the player since sharing a dejected image after the Gunners' 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on August 27. You get exhausted of telling yourself, "I'm going to pick myself back up again" after another defeat.

"Yes, we didn't play well enough the way we want to play [at Liverpool], I agree with you, but to come out to a conclusion that you have to kick the ball into the stand to win football games is the wrong conclusion". "It's very hard to predict when he will be available again but, overall, I hope that after Christmas, he will be available". Wenger believes that there has been a lack of perspective in some of the hard-hitting analysis of Arsenal's poor start to the season, notably the 4-0 defeat at Liverpool immediately before the global break.
