The game was originally scheduled for the NRG Stadium in Houston, but due Hurricane Harvey, it was moved to the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

"We've got several members of our travel party - our coaches, our players, our staff members - whose families have been evacuated", general manager Rick Smith said.

Tickets for the Texans-Cowboys game went on sale Tuesday night, and more than 40,000 have been sold, with the proceeds going to the hurricane relief fund.

Fans who purchased $25 tickets will have the option of getting a refund or having that money donated to relief efforts.

Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee told NFL Network's Steve Wyche he's "glad" the Texans get to go home after being on the road so long and the Cowboys players are "fine" with the cancellation. Since the Cowboys played in the Hall of Fame Game on August 3, they have played in the customary four preseason games already. Watt said. "This is much bigger and much more important than football".

However, the Texans have made it clear that not only do they want to play at NRG Stadium on September 10 if at all possible, but they believe it's "important" for the city that they play at home.

Watt said he's been moved by watching everyone that has helped out in the crisis so far and is looking forward to pitching in. "We also hope our actions will encourage others to do whatever they can to help their neighbors in need right now". The team has been practicing at the Cowboys' facility in Frisco, Texas, this week.

Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt was pleased with the decision to cancel the game and get back to Houston. It's bigger than a game. At last report, the effort had raised more than $5.1 million.

Watt began the fundraiser on Sunday with an initial donation of $100,000 and setting the goal for $200,000.
