Real Madrid manager Zindine Zidane told the press in Spain after the game that they would be appeal his red card.

The Real Madrid forward was a second half substitute in his team's 3-1 win over Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

The player's action violated Rule 96 which states that: "grabbing, pushing or tripping or any other violent gestures towards a match official will be issued with a playing suspension ranging from four to twelve matches". I'm not going to get involved with the referees, but when you look at everything that happened and you think that we're going to be missing Cristiano for five games, there's something going on there.

The red card and suspension overshadowed what was another big win for Real Madrid after it struggled on its US tour, going winless after 90 minutes in four games.

The joy of scoring against his biggest rival infront of their home crowd was surmounted by the disgrace of a red card that saw Ronaldo push the referee in frustration. He will miss the second leg of the Super Cup this week, and then the first four league games of the season.

But Ronaldo's goal celebration - when he took his shirt off and flexed his muscles - earned him a yellow card.

"Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro - having been shown the red card, the player pushed me slightly in a sign of his disagreement", the Basque official wrote. The REF also fined Ronaldo €3,805 ($4,482) and Real Madrid €1,750 ($2,061).

A Gerard Pique own goal and, following Lionel Messi's penalty, fine strikes from Cristiano Ronaldo and Marco Asensio handed Valverde a humbling reverse in his first competitive game in charge of Barca.

Zidane's men then host Valencia and Levante, before making the trip to Real Sociedad.

'We can't change it, but we'll try and make sure he plays on Wednesday'.
