"Liverpool is not a club that has to sell players", Klopp said.

It wasn't long until reports emerged that Philippe Coutinho had himself emailed in a transfer request.

Barcelona have had two bids rejected by Liverpool for Coutinho, who is keen to move to Spain, according to British media reports.

Liverpool have reportedly denied Barcelona target Philippe Coutinho's transfer request, with the club insisting they will not welcome any offers for the player this summer.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said, "I still think he will be at the club". But I don't think so because I think it was pretty clear what the club, FSG, said about it. "And that is the way it will go".

Coutinho stated his desire to leave via email.

Sky Sports News understands Liverpool have so far rejected two bids from Barcelona for the Brazil worldwide, with the latest offer worth up to £90.4 million.

"Philippe has tried very hard to find an amicable solution to this situation but to no avail", the statement read.

He has missed training in the run up to the clash with a back injury, though is actually believed to be fully fit.

Jurgen Klopp backed the owners' stance on Coutinho and the statement came as much needed relief for Liverpool fans as the Coutinho saga seemingly came to an end.

But Liverpool rejected his demand with Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) issuing a statement on the matter. Of course a player of huge talents was always going to attract the attention of Europe's very biggest clubs, but one thing was for sure - he wouldn't kick up a fuss.

The Brazil global directly communicated this desire to the Merseysiders via email on Friday following a strong statement from Fenway Sports Group (FSG) that his exit would not be sanctioned this summer .

Klopp, however, is determined to win the Premier League title this season by retaining Coutinho, Liverpool's top scorer with 14 goals in all competitions last season when the Reds finished fourth.
