St. Charles also worked in a classroom at one of the two Orlando daycare centers owned by Little Miracles Academy, and was in one of the classrooms while Myles was left outside in the center's parking lot in the van, the affidavit said.

Investigators said that St. Charles wasn't an approved driver on the facility's roster.

Charles of Orlando as the driver of the vehicle in which the child, Myles Hill, was left for most of the daylight hours on Monday. The high temperature that day was 93 degrees, according to an arrest affidavit.

Orlando Police Detective Shane Overfield acknowledged in an arrest report that "this negligent act was committed with an utter disregard for the safety of the children she is responsible for transporting during the normal course of duties as a day care service provider and driver of the child care transport vehicle".

"Tragedies like this can be avoided", Mina said.

It was not clear who is representing St. Charles in the case. Police say St. Charles assumed all the children in the van had walked inside the facility, but did not do a headcount, according to the report.

St. Charles is charged with aggravated manslaughter stemming from culpable negligence.

During the pickup, Myles' grandmother, Brenda Watts, provided St. Charles with the payment for Myles' childcare and placed him in the back of the van on the driver's side, the affidavit states. The driver told the police that she got out of the van and opened the rear hatch to get some cleaning supplies that she was supposed to deliver to the center.

At a press, conference the day care's co-owner offered a tearful apology and asked for forgiveness, but Myles Hill's family say they want answers. They estimated that the hottest temperature reached 144 degrees around 3 p.m. The "unbearable environment" caused Myles' death, according to the medical examiner, who determined his cause of death was hyperthermia. St. Charles gave the payment from Myles' family to the day care center and left back to the location on 900 Plymouth Ave.

Little Miracles Academy "was previously cited for not keeping proper paperwork", Carroll said. Thornton owns two facilities, and they have both been shut down pending a thorough investigation.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine Myles' cause of death, but Orlando Police Chief John Mina told reporters on Tuesday that it appears to be heat-related. Employees then told the family that they did not see Hill at all at the day care center.
