The Indian qualifier lost in three sets 4-6 6-4 3-6 against 15th seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa in the quarter-finals played last night.

After saving a match point in the third set, Anderson got the win 6-3 6-7 (8) 7-6 (7) in just under three hours yesterday.

Anderson's power game is ideally suited to the super-slick centre court surface at Rock Creek Park that has officially been measured as faster than Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

Raonic will return to action Monday at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, where he will be the top Canadian competing. Anderson sealed the win on his second match point.

The quarterfinal matchups are Anderson vs. Bhambri, Raonic vs. "Hopefully I can win a few more matches here".

Anderson is aware that it is both an opportunity and a challenge.
