"He (Masilela) was shot in the upper body‚" police spokesperson Kay Makhubele said.

"It is true. We are not sure of the details at the moment but we understand that he was involved in a hijacking on Wednesday and died‚" Rhythm City publicist Joe Strydom told TshisaLIVE.

Dumi died under tragic circumstances after being shot during an attempted robbery in Tembisa on Wednesday night. She is surrounded by close friends and family who are watching over her and providing her with support.

He has played the role of Sifiso Ngema on e.tv soapie Rhythm City for five years now.

In a statement, the Rhythm City producers wrote: "We are shattered!"

Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa took to Twitter this morning to express his condolences.

"We can confirm that Dumi's aunt has died but the family will not elaborate further than this", Mpumi said.

"They were driving a Golf 7 when the hijackers approached them".

His friend drove him to the hospital, where he later died.

Masilela recently married former Muvhango actress Simphiwe Ngema in a star-studded traditional wedding.
