Josh Onomah joins Aston Villa on loan

England U20 World Cup victor Josh Onomah is set to join Aston Villa on loan from Spurs to provide cover for the injured Jack Grealish.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been a fringe player for Mauricio Pochettino's first-team squad for the past two seasons, but the former Southampton and Espanyol boss feels that Onomah will have a greater chance of developing elsewhere.

He made 12 senior appearances for Spurs in 2016/17, including a Champions League debut off the bench away at Bayer Leverkusen in October 2016.

Onomah, 20, has been in and around the cusp of the Spurs first team for a couple of seasons but will now supposedly receive regular game-time under Steve Bruce at Villa Park, where promotion back to the Premier League is very much the aim ahead of the coming campaign.

The 20-year-old box-to-box midfielder, who won the World Cup with England's Under-20s this summer, is expected to be announced within the next 48 hours.

Onomah is Bruce's sixth signing, following Johnstone, John Terry, Chris Samba, Glenn Whelan and Ahmed Elmohamady through the door.

This is a fantastic signing for Aston Villa, who have added another utility man to their midfield to fill in for Jack Grealish, or anyone who falls out of the side to injury.

Grealish is set to be absent for at least three-months.

Onomah is eligible to make his Villa debut in their opening Championship match of the season against Hull on Saturday.
