Oscar Pistorius was taken from prison to a public hospital on Thursday with chest pains and will stay overnight for observation.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Pistorius suffered from chest pains sparking fears of a possible heart attack.

According to The Citizen, the 30-year-old was taken to Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria, which is located outside the prison.

This is the second time Pistorius has left prison for medical treatment. A year ago he was taken to the hospital for treatment to cuts on his wrists, which prison authorities said he sustained after falling in his cell.

Pistorius was transferred from the Kgosi Mampuru II Prison to the Atteridgeville Correctional Centre a year ago as the facility was better equipped to accommodate him, Nxumalo said.

Sometimes dubbed the "Blade Runner", Pistorius soared to worldwide fame after becoming the first amputee to compete against able-bodied athletes in the 2012 Olympic Games.

"I can not confirm that he suffered chest pains", Independent quoted Singabakho Nxumalo of correctional services. Pistorius' appeal to overturn the upgraded murder conviction was denied.

Pistorius - nicknamed Blade Runner due to the carbon fibre prosthetic limbs he used to run - shot dead model Reeva on Valentine's Day 2013.

The Telegraph reported that initially, the media made claims that Pistorius' injury was "self inflicted" and that he had tried to commit suicide inside his cell.

Pistorius' family spokeswoman was not immediately available to comment. Pistorius' uncle Arnold also told the news outlet that Oscar had just suffered a "couple of bruises" from the incident.
