Leipzig are now keen to get their star-man to sign a new contract with the club, which would eliminate such a release clause.

"I am not now assuming that we will be able to extend his contract prematurely", he said.

"We have not developed for five years so that we can lose one of our best players in our first year in the Champions League", he continued.

"All the other scenarios depend on how we do this season, how Naby plays and so on".

The Guinea worldwide is contracted to the German side until 2020, but reports in Germany claim a €50m release clause in his existing deal will become active at the conclusion of the upcoming season.

Rangnick said: "It does not matter at all whether it's 75million or 100million euros".

"That would make no sense".

Across the Bundesliga or within runners-up Leipzig's squad, Keita doesn't top a lot of rankings.

"I think he would be willing to wait until next season as supposedly Keita has a buyout clause". Dembele recorded 103 take-ons to Keita's 83.

According to CalcioMercato in Italy, Inter Milan are looking to chase Keita for the reduced fee next summer as well after the club's owners have been bound by Financial Fair Play rules this year.

"He is more focused on us and has more fun now than a year ago".

Liverpool have agreed terms with the player, but at the moment Leipzig have batted away all their offers.

Keita scored eight goals in 31 appearances last season to help Leipzig qualify for the Champions League for the first time.
