Austin Jackson makes 'the catch of the year'

Red Sox's Fister beats Indians for his first win of season Doug Fister tweaks mechanics, sees better results in strong start for Boston Red Sox

Many people knew despite only being 20 years old that Devers was ready to hit at the major league level but the problem was whether his defense was major league ready.

Doug Fister pitched 7 2/3 strong innings for his first win in nearly a year, Mookie Betts drove in three runs, and Rafael Devers went 4-for-4 to power the Boston Red Sox to a 6-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians Monday night.

The teams combined for 28 hits and six home runs, but Jackson made a defensive play that stood above all the offense when he robbed Hanley Ramirez of a leadoff homer in the fifth with a leaping grab in the right-center triangle at Fenway Park.

Ramirez mouthed "whoa" in disbelief after the play and the Fenway Park crowd gave Jackson a standing ovation after the catch was confirmed by a crew-chief review.

The praise for the Cleveland center fielder flowed on social media as well, with fans rushing to crown the catch as one of the best in history. I was really just finding this team boring.

1st in American League Central- Indians entered the series opener with winning 9 of their last 10 games but were left shell shocked as the Red Sox posted a 2-6 victory on Monday Night. That's a hard wall out there and a lot of guys run away from it.

That's when Cleveland got to Sale again - as Edwin Encarnacion took advantage of Fenway's short porch for a two-run homer. Thursday's 12-10 loss was a wild affair that saw the Indians take an early 5-0 lead in the top of the second inning before giving five back in the bottom half of the frame.

The Boston Red Sox have historically been a collection of sluggers with one ace and a "pray for rain" type of rotation after that. Especially after they missed out on Pat Neshek, I thought that Reed and his 2.57 ERA, while nearly exclusively pitching in the 8th or latter, would be an excellent match for this Red Sox team.

Jackson managed to hook one arm over the top of the wall to brace himself as he went over it. "Seriously, just getting back to it is one thing".

"In the moment, you see yourself going down head first, so you do whatever you can to break [the fall]".

But at the last second, just as Boston's fans were preparing to celebrate the homer, Jackson leaped into the air near the wall and caught the ball at full extension. They even gave Tzu-Wei Lin a chance who actually played pretty good but not good enough for them to keep him around. "Thought I landed a little better than that".
