"The rally came on buying in capital goods, metal, oil and gas, consumer durables and banking stocks", Dhruv Desai, Director and Chief Operating Officer of Tradebulls, told IANS.

The broader NSE index ended up 37.55 points or 0.37 per cent at 10,114.65, while the benchmark BSE index closed higher by 60.23 points or 0.19 per cent at 32,575.17.

The shares of ICICI Bank, ITC, TCS, Maruti Suzuki remain the top point-wise contributor in lifting the benchmark indices higher.

In the Nifty chart, Eicher Motors (up 4.88 per cent), Indiabulls Housing Finance (up 4.83 per cent), Tech Mahindra (4.09 per cent), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (up 2.93 per cent), Bosch (up 2.88 per cent) and Hindalco Industries (up 2.71 per cent) stood as top gainers.

Investors will be keeping a close eye on the Reserve Bank of India's meeting on Wednesday, at which it is expected to cut rates.

The wider Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) provisionally closed above the psychologically important 10,100-mark for the first time.

US stocks ended mixed overnight as stable oil prices, strong earnings reports and subdued sovereign bond yields helped investors shrug off political and geopolitical tensions.

Market breadth was positive with 666 advances against 275 declines.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.5 percent, led by gains in financials and energy shares, while Tokyo's Nikkei rose 0.2 percent.

The company hopes to raise Rs 1,400-1,500 crore through an initial public offering.

The big losers were HDFC 1.74 per cent, along with ONGC, L&T, Asian Paints and SBI.

Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) net bought shares of Rs 1,768.43 crore.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a record closing high on Monday, helped by Boeing, while selling in Facebook, Alphabet and other technology companies checked the S&P 500 and pulled the Nasdaq lower.
