The quest for legendary Pokemon begins

Players at Grant Park are struggling to connect to the game, and partake in the events.

To celebrate over a year of Pokémon GO, Niantic is now putting on a global event this weekend titled Pokémon GO Fest, with the main action taking place in Chicago's Grant Park today.

Clearly the developers of Pokemon Go are anticipating a success at Pokemon Go Fest (and will probably tweak some variables just in case it starts looking dicey) but dang, how much would it suck if they still failed after a year of waiting for Legendaries?

The game is working for people outside of Pokemon GO Fest. Niantic set up wi-fi hotspots, but those are not for attendees. Niantic is running a live stream from Chicago, but it has only had limited information as to the global performance of players.

"Players can team up with friends and other trainers to join legendary raid battle to defeat the legendary pokémon and earn a chance to catch it", Niantics explained the concept of the feature in a statement, as reported by The Verge.

This all depends on Trainers completing the ongoing Challenges, with players reporting issues staying logged into the game. If they are able to catch enough Pokemon during the challenge windows, the first legendary Pokemon will be revealed in Grant Park, the venue of the festival.

Niantic printed QR codes that would give rewards to attendees.

However, since the extension of the Pokemon Go Fest area, things appear to have become better, with a higher-quality of connection now available. If the premium currency is tied to people redeeming the cards, these could attain additional value on secondhand markets. While Unown isn't a regional-exclusive Pokemon, it's usually quite rare.

Heracross now spawns in GoFest.
