The United States again fought through a less-than-convincing performance to best a weaker opponent in a 2-0 win over El Salvador in a Gold Cup quarterfinal in Philadelphia on Wednesday night. She's mad at me. "She's mad at me, she's mad at Romero".

The victory also extends the USA's unbeaten run to 12 matches (7-0-5) since Bruce Arena returned as head coach, setting a team-record unbeaten streak at the start of a U.S. MNT coaching tenure.

"They are games you want to win", forward Jozy Altidore said Tuesday after training at Rhodes Field at the University of Pennsylvania.

"[The nipple twisting] should be allowed, but the biting is no good".

Defenders Omar Gonzalez and Eric Lichaj scored for the USA, who advance to face Costa Rica in the semifinals of the tournament for CONCACAF supremacy.

"I was a bit shocked", Gonzalez said.

Altidore wasn't even the only USA player who appeared to be bitten, with video evidence pointing to goal-scoring center back Omar Gonzalez also being a teeth-to-the-back victim.

El Salvador nearly scored with their first attack when striker Rodolfo Zelaya pounced on a poor back pass by Lichaj but was brilliantly foiled as he entered the area by the out-rushing Tim Howard's dive to palm the ball away from his feet. Midfield spacing and connection was an issue, as it was in the group stage-although this time more of the problems occurred defensively.

The USMNT will meet Costa Rica on Saturday with a trip to the final on the line. What was shown during the replays of both incidents would be hard to believe if you didn't see it firsthand. But for a veteran like Omar Gonzalez, the tournament could mean laying a claim to a starting spot.

"We've got to get them better service", said Howard of the two forwards.

Both goals came in the final moments of the first half as Omar Gonzalez headed the Americans ahead before Eric Lichaj bagged his first worldwide goal to the delight of a strong crowd at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

The 27-year-old later added: 'It's never happened before, but in Concacaf, it never ceases to amaze me. I'm sure they will do what they're supposed to do.

After thanking his goalkeeper for saving him from embarrassment in the game's opening minutes, Lichaj went on to express his gratitude for not being punished by El Salvador for his defensive mistakes in the second half.
