Mary Ann Adams Jones has waited decades for the capture of the man accused of murdering her husband who was a Pennsylvania police chief.

"For nearly 37 years, the family of Chief Adams and the citizens of Saxonburg have been awaiting news of Donald Eugene Webb's whereabouts". Police believe he was in Saxonburg, outside Pittsburgh, to case a jewelry store he planned to rob when Adams stopped his vehicle. His rental vehicle was found more than two weeks later at a motel in Warwick, Rhode Island.

The FBI and state police in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania discovered human remains Thursday at Lillian Webb's home on Maple Crest Drive in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Lillian Webb agreed to show investigators where the body was buried in exchange for not being prosecuted.

Then Adams pulled him over in a remote area, and Webb, who had ties to the notorious Patriarca organized crime family in Providence, allegedly beat and fatally shot Adams, a married father of two small boys, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The FBI, Bristol County District Attorney's office, Pennsylvania State Police and officials from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner assisted Massachusetts State Police in the investigation.

"They didn't forget him - they honored the chief and despite how many years it took, the final result that's proven today - that that's Donald Eugene Webb - is a result of a lot of unbelievable work by law enforcement".

If it's not Webb, and he's still alive, he'd be 85 years old.

Lillian Webb could not be reached for comment Friday. A message was left at her home.

Adams was 31 when he was killed, leaving his wife to raise two young sons.

The white Mercury Cougar Webb was believed to be driving was found later that month in Rhode Island. An arrest warrant was issued in 1980 and Webb was listed on the FBI's 10 most wanted list from 1981 to 2007.

Recent reports said a secret room was found in the ex-wife's house.

"It's the biggest question mark in our town's history, so we're hopeful we'll see what happens in the next short time here", Chief Beachem said. "Our thoughts are with the family and we hope this eases their minds, if even only slightly".
