Former President Jimmy Carter was discharged from a Winnipeg hospital Friday morning after becoming dehydrated while working on a Habitat for Humanity project, the Carter Center said.

Habitat for Humanity executives said on Thursday that Carter had advised them he was feeling fine and he wanted everyone to keep building the homes, which are intended for lower-income families.

The Carter Center tweeted that the United States' 39th president, 92, was taken to St. Boniface General Hospital for rehydration as a precaution and that his wife, Rosalynn Carter, 89, was by his side.

Carter has always been involved with Habitat for Humanity's work and, along with his wife Rosalynn Carter, sponsors the annual Carter Work Project.

"President Carter told us he is okay and is being taken offsite for observation", Habitat said. On Wednesday, Carter said the build in Edmonton, Canada, was one of the best.

Jimmy Carter works at the build site on Thursday before falling ill from dehydration.

He has been an active promoter of the organization and led building trips around the world. This week's project building houses in several Canadian communities is the 34th time the Carters have pitched in on Habitat projects, lending a hand and their name to promote the work. "I wish him a speedy recovery", Clinton wrote.
