"It's unbelievable to see the rate at which we are building innovative and competitive new products through strong execution".

Update: 7/13/2017 9:00AM EST - We do have a video demo of Ryzen Threadripper 1950X and 1920X CPUs in action sent over by AMD.

Let's start with my favorite CPU and platform, Ryzen Threadripper. AMD also announced its Ryzen 3 models and a ship date of July 27, but hasn't provided pricing information about these low-end models.

The news was dribbled out of AMD today by senior vice president and general manager of Computing and Graphics, Jim Anderson.

"You know about its 16 cores and 32 threads, but it also delivers a 3.4 GHz base clock and a 4.0 GHz boost".

Intel's i9-7900X is priced at $999 (around £770, AU$1,295), the exact same level that AMD has pitched its flagship 1950X - the latter of which proved nearly 50% quicker in the above benchmark test.

Two Ryzen Threadripper models are going to be on shelves from early August, and in addition to the previously announced 16-core (32-thread) monster, there will be a 12-core (24-thread) model, with pricing starting at $799 (around £615, AU$1,035) for the latter.

"What's more, every Threadripper X399 [motherboard] platform supporting the 1950X and 1920X features 64 lanes of PCIe with support for up to four GPUs".

The chipmaker on Thursday said its high-end Ryzen Threadripper microprocessors would go sale in early August. When you take a look at AMD's 1920X, the price gap is still massive, with AMD coming in at $799 and Intel's 12C/24T Core i9- 7920X priced at $1,199. Also, we looked at the higher end of the Ryzen line, the Ryzen 7 1800X, and you can read our opinion on it here. However, if you want to get a Ryzen Threadripper system ASAP, you can always splurge on Dell's new Alienware Area-51 Threadripper Edition systems, which will begin shipping on July 27.

This blog contains forward-looking statements concerning Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. After a decade of falling behind, Su is overhauling AMD's product line with Ryzen and other newly-designed chips meant to compete more strongly against Intel (intc) and Nvidia (nvda). Forward-looking statements are commonly identified by words such as "would", "may", "expects", "believes", "plans", "intends", "projects" and other terms with similar meaning.
