DeMarre Carroll, Future Picks Traded To Brooklyn Nets In Salary Dump

Nets lose out on Otto Porter, but reportedly trade for Raptors' DeMarre Carroll Report: Former Jazzman DeMarre Carroll being traded for ex-Lone Peak star Justin Hamilton

The trade included the Raptors sending away Carroll and two future draft picks in exchange for Brooklyn's Justin Hamilton.

Justin Hamilton wasn't any kind of huge contributor for the Nets.

Well done, Mr. Marks.

The Toronto Raptors made the decision to "run it back" for the 2017-2018 season, at least in some ways.

Earlier Saturday, the Nets lost out on Porter when the Wizards matched their offer sheet, as expected. As in he has a plan for every stage of this massive rebuilding. That will eat up quite a bit of Brooklyn's cap room, but the Nets are making the most of a situation in which they lost a player who could have been their top prize of the offseason.

It's hard to find wing players that can shoot the 3 and play passable defense. He is owed around $7.6 million for this upcoming season and his player option is worth an estimated $7.9 million.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the Joseph deal, which will net the Raptors Miles on a three-year, $25 million contract and solidify the team's small forward spot.

Brooklyn now has one first round and two second-round selections in next year's draft.

This was a great deal as the Nets have the cap space to swallow his deal and still hope that he can provide outside scoring for a team that desperately needs it.

Absorbing DeMarre Carroll's contract takes the Nets out of the running for any of the remaining free agents this offseason. Along with third-year wing Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Carroll makes one of the NBA's worst perimeter defenses from last season better. This is the case again as the Raptors got DeMarre Carroll's two year $30 million contract off their books. Miles has been doing that his whole career, and especially with the Pacers last season. There was never going to be a use for him here, and he was simply the cost of unloading Carroll in a deal that worked for both sides (along with, you know, two picks). Brooklyn posted a 20-62 record in the 2016-17 season.

Brooklyn shipped star center Brook Lopez off to Los Angeles for former No. 2 draft pick D'Angelo Russell and big man Timofey Mozgov last month.
